چکیده

We present numerical simulations of the dynamics of two-dimensional Josephson junction arrays to study the mechanism of mutual phase locking. We show that in the presence of an external magnetic field two mechanisms are playing a role in phase locking: feedback through the external load and internal coupling between rows due to microwave currents induced by the field. We have found the parameter values (junction capacitance, cell loop inductance, impedance of the external load) for which the interplay of both these mechanisms leads to the in-phase solution. The case of unshunted arrays is discussed as well. PACS. 74.50.+r PACS. 85.25.Dq Subm. to Europhysics Letters [email protected] [email protected]

Two-dimensional arrays of Josephson junctions in a magnetic field: A stability analysis of synchronized states

We report the results of a Floquet analysis of two-dimensional arrays of resistively and capacitively shunted Josephson junctions in an external transverse magnetic field. The Floquet analysis indicates stable phase locking of the active junctions over a finite range of values of the bias current and junction capacitance, even in the absence of an external load. This stable phase locking is rob...

Strong-coupling perturbation theory for the two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model in a magnetic field

The Bose-Hubbard model in an external magnetic field is investigated with strong-coupling perturbation theory. The lowest-order secular equation leads to the problem of a charged particle moving on a lattice in the presence of a magnetic field, which was first treated by Hofstadter. We present phase diagrams for the two-dimensional square and triangular lattices, showing a change in shape of th...

Magnetic flux distribution in a three-dimensional inductive network of Josephson junctions

The magnetic response of three-dimensional Josephson junction networks to constant or slowly varying external magnetic fields is studied. General equations are written for complex networks made of n elementary cubic cells, each cell containing 12 resistively shunted ideal Josephson junctions. The magnetic-flux distribution in the network is calculated numerically as a function of the external m...

Anti-phase locking in a two-dimensional Josephson junction array

We consider theoretically phase locking in a simple two-dimensional Josephson junction array consisting of two loops coupled via a joint line transverse to the bias current. Ring inductances are supposed to be small, and special emphasis is taken on the influence of external flux. Is is shown, that in the stable oscillation regime both cells oscillate with a phase shift equal to π (i.e. anti-ph...

Hexagonal symmetry of magnetic field dependence of Josephson current through triangle shape superconducting junctions

We have found hexagonal symmetry in the dependence of Josephson current of triangle shape junctions upon external magnetic field. Niobium/aluminum-oxide/niobium junctions are fabricated using magnetron sputtering of niobium and thermal oxidation of aluminum layers. Selective niobium anodization process has been used to define junction areas. In the case of square shaped junction, dependence of ...
